How to use firmware recovery when your Mercusys Router becomes brick

Introduction: On rare occasions, the router may become unresponsive during an upgrade process. The most common reason leading to this is the router losing power during the upgrading process. You may follow the steps below to enter firmware recovery mode and perform a firmware upgrade.

 

Things to prepare:

The Router which needs firmware recovery

One Ethernet cable

One PC with an Ethernet port

 

Steps to enter firmware recovery mode and perform firmware upgrade:

1. Download the latest firmware of your Halo unit from the official website. Here we take the MR60X as an example; you may get the latest firmware from here: Download for MR60X

2. Power on your Mercusys Router and connect the PC directly to one of the Router's ethernet ports.

3. Set a static IP address of 192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0 on the PC’s ethernet adapter.

(no need for setting gateway or DNS)

4. Press and hold the reset button of the router for about 20-30 seconds; you will see the router's LED light turn red and then return to orange.

5. On the PC, open a browser and access http://192.168.1.1; you will be able to see the firmware recovery page; you may upload the firmware and start the firmware upgrade; the webpage will tell you once the upgrade is finished.

6. Some models require a manual reboot (disconnect and reconnect the power cable) after firmware recovery.
