MW306R–More Than Just a Router
What is a router? What can a router do? In short, a router is a networking device that connects your local home network devices and the internet. It can forward data packets between computer networks to establish internet connections.
Routers are a must-have product for all of us to surf and share the internet; however, most only ever use the Router mode. And for good reason. The MW306R works as a router to provide fast, stable WiFi for all your connected devices with wireless speeds up to 300 Mbps, making it ideal for HD streaming, online gaming, and rapid file downloads. MW306R is an ideal router for your daily life, work, and play.
MW306R provides more than one working mode and it can do much more than a router. Then, what can MW306R do besides working as a router? In this article, we’re going to walk you through all the kinds of things MW306R can do.
- Router Mode — Create a wireless network for all your WiFi devices
In Router mode, MW306R works as a router to provide internet access for multiple wired and wireless devices.
- AP Mode — Extend a wired network and make it wireless
In AP mode, MW306R works as an access point that creates a wireless local network. It is usually used to transform a wired network into a wireless one. It can connect to a wired router, switch, or hub via an Ethernet cable.
For example, at your home, you might only have a wired router or an Ethernet outlet for internet access even though you want to connect to the internet wirelessly. There’s a simple fix for that. Switch MW306R to the AP mode, then you can transform your wired network to a wireless one for your wireless devices. And, you don’t need to reconfigure the internet or change your current network settings.
- Range Extender Mode — Extend your existing WiFi
In Range Extender mode, MW306R is used to extend your existing WiFi network. It connects wirelessly to your existing WiFi router and it should be placed within range of the existing WiFi network. The half-way point between the router and a dead zone is recommended as the best location. You can use the same network name (SSID) and security as your existing WiFi network or use a different network name to expand the WiFi.
For example, if you already have a wireless router and want to expand the current WiFi coverage to some dead zones, switch MW306R to the Range Extender mode.
- WISP Mode — Wirelessly connect to the ISP network in areas without wired service
WISP stands for Wireless Internet Service Provider. As its name suggests, WISP mode is used for the router to connect to a Public WiFi. Unlike a traditional router using a wired connection (Ethernet cable) to connect to the internet service provider, a router with WISP mode enabled connects to the provider using its wireless module.
In WISP mode, MW306R works as a wireless gateway to the internet. It can connect to a wireless network and share the connection to its connected devices.
For example, suppose you are in an area without wired service and it’s hard to deploy Ethernet cables, switch MW306R to WISP mode to wirelessly connect to a Public WiFi.
